The Sino-Spanish Campus (S-SC) is a platform for academic, research and innovation cooperation between China, Spain and Latin America on the basis of openness, tolerance, mutually beneficial collaboration and shared principles. It is formed by universities that excel in applying technology to the societal challenges in China and the Spanish-speaking world.
Its current members are Tongji University, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Universidad de Sevilla.
The S-SC has its headquarters in Tongji University, Shanghai (China); where its facilities support the S-SC activities. Such activities include a student exchange program, double degree agreements, joint research projects, short stays of researchers, organization of academic, scientific and innovation events, and startup incubator, among others.
Cultural activities
On the cultural and dissemination domain, S-SC cooperates with Tongji and main Spanish institutions and organizations in Shanghai / China in all types of activities with a focus on promoting Spanish language and culture. As main examples it has organized high impact events as the Football World Cup at Tongji, the S-SC anniversaries, painting and photography exhibitions, Spanish language courses, and help in the arrangements of several field trips of Chinese students to Spain.

LI XIANGNING
He is Dean and full professor in history, theory and criticism at Tongji University College of Architecture and Urban Planning and Co-Director of the Sino-Spanish Campus since its foundation. He is a member of CICA(Comité International des Critiques d’Architecture), and has published widely on contemporary Chinese architecture and urbanism in international architectural magazines including Architectural Review, A+U, Architectural Record, Arquitectura Viva, Space, Domus, and Volume. He was a visiting scholar at MIT, teaching a course in the year of 2006. In 2009, Dr. Li was the UFI Fellow at MAK Center of Art and Architecture in Los Angeles, and Erasmus Mundus visiting professor at TU Darmstadt.
He lectured in universities and institutes including Harvard University, Princeton University, University of Southern California, Chalmers University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Canadian Center for Architecture. He is co-curator of 2011 Chendu Biennale, 2011 Shenzhen Biennale, and academic director and curator of 2013 Shenzhen/Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale, and Westbund 2013 Biennale.
XAVIER FERRE
He holds an MSc and PhD in Computer Science. He is associate professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), acting as Rector’s Delegate for Asia at UPM from 2021 and Co-Director of the Sino-Spanish Campus since 2022. His research activity is linked to the UPM Center for Biomedical Technology, in its Active Ageing Lab, where he researches on usability and UX in mobile applications, technology adoption and UX for older users, and integration of usability practices into software development. He has co-authored highly cited papers with Ben Shneiderman and Larry L. Constantine, and has acted as Principal Investigator in 2 European projects and 3 national level projects and participated in more than 20 other research projects. He has carried out research stays at the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) – University of Maryland, at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN), and at Tongji University, where he was appointed as High-End Foreign Expert by the Chinese government in the period 2015-2017.
JEAN YU
Born in 1986, got her bachelor degree for Spanish and English Philology in Shanghai International Studies University, master in linguistics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and master and PhD candidate in Economics Analysis at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
She pursued her professional career in the Chinese Embassy in Spain and Universidad Carlos III of Madrid. She is the program coordinator of Sino-Spanish Campus of Tongji University.
