PhD in Ecology, Conservation & Restoration of Ecosystems
The Doctorate Program in Ecology. Conservation and Restoration of Ecosystems is a title of the universities of Alcalá (coordinating university), Complutense, Polytechnic of Madrid and Rey Juan Carlos, all of them of the Community of Madrid. Professors from various institutions and collaborating companies also take part. It has received a favorable report by the National Agency for Quality Assessment in December 2013, and is in turn an adaptation to the new legislation, proceeding from a previous program with the same name that has had a Mention towards Excellence (Ref. MEE2011 -0442) during the previous courses and up to the present course 2013-14.The general objective of the degree is to provide the student with the necessary competences for the elaboration of a Doctoral Thesis related to the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems in a broad sense (including aquatic ones) continental and coastal), but also on applied aspects that can be derived from ecological research, particularly those related to the recovery and regeneration of degraded ecosystems and the preservation of biodiversity. For this, it has a large team of professors from different specialties who are part of high-level competitive research groups. The interuniversity nature of the Program allows the student to access all this human team and have opportunities to participate in a wide inter-university offer of transversal and specific activities. The Program is especially aimed at graduates (or graduates) in Biology, Forestry and Forestry Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Agronomic Engineering and other related degrees. Students must have knowledge in ecology and related subjects, such as conservation biology and ecosystem restoration.
