PhD in Mathematical Engineering, Statistics & Operational Research
The doctoral program in Mathematical Engineering, Statistics and Operational Research (IMEIO) brings together a group of researchers from different faculties, schools, departments and research groups of the Complutense and Polytechnic Universities of Madrid, promoters of the Campus of International Excellence CEI- Moncloa His activity covers many areas within the field of applied mathematics, in a very broad sense, areas ranging from the necessary foundations to direct application to real cases. What unites the set of professors of the program is the development of results, techniques or methods oriented to the use of mathematics in the description of phenomena, process improvement or problem solving. Our proposal is therefore, instead of meeting a broad set of researchers with common interests in the lines developed by the doctoral program and that have a great educational and research potential. The program was born with the aspiration of becoming a benchmark in its field.
The fundamental areas of program development are structured around two fundamental axes. The first, encompassed under the generic heading of Mathematical Engineering, includes the following thematic areas: mathematical foundations; modeling; numerical simulation; fluid mechanics; dynamics and control; mathematics of disordered media and complex systems; space science and technology; geodetic, geodynamic and geomathematical engineering; mathematics for information and communication technologies; math for the social sciences, among other. The second axis includes, within the field of Statistics and Operations Research, areas such as the following: inference; data mining; probabilistic models; stochastic processes; mathematical programming; decision models; logistics models.
The set of activities that will develop the doctoral students will culminate with the completion of a doctoral thesis in any of the previous lines.
